Here, on whatever occasion a bhikkhu develops the supramundane jhāna (lokuttara jhāna) — leading out (niyyānika), going to dispersion (apacayagāmī) — for the abandoning of views (diṭṭhigata), for the attainment of the first stage (bhūmi), and, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, … enters and dwells in the first jhāna, of painful practice and sluggish direct knowledge (dukkhāpaṭipadaṃ dandhābhiññaṃ): whatever on that occasion is mindfulness (sati), recollection (anussati), … right mindfulness (sammāsati), the awakening factor of mindfulness, a path factor (maggaṅga), included in the path (magga) — this is called the awakening factor of mindfulness.
