[568] [The seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga)] are not to be abandoned by seeing (dassana); they are not to be abandoned by development (bhāvanā); they do not have roots to be abandoned by seeing; they do not have roots to be abandoned by development. They may be with thought-conception (savitakka); they may be without thought-conception (avitakka). They may be with discursive thought (savicāra); they may be without discursive thought (avicāra).
The awakening factor of rapture (pītisambojjhaṅga) is without rapture (appītika); the six [remaining] factors of awakening may be with rapture (sappītika); they may be without rapture. The awakening factor of rapture is not accompanied by rapture (pītisahagata); the six factors of awakening may be accompanied by rapture; they may be not accompanied by rapture. The awakening factor of rapture is accompanied by pleasure (sukhasahagata); the six factors of awakening may be accompanied by pleasure; they may be not accompanied by pleasure. The awakening factor of rapture is not accompanied by equanimity (upekkhāsahagata); the six factors of awakening may be accompanied by equanimity; they may be not accompanied by equanimity.
They are not of the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), not of the form sphere (rūpāvacara), not of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara); they are unincluded (apariyāpanna). They may be leading out (niyyānika); they may be not leading out (aniyyānika). They may be fixed (niyata); they may be not fixed (aniyata). They are unsurpassed (anuttara); they are without conflict (araṇa).
