[606] "Having undertaken them, he trains in the training rules (sikkhāpada)": herein, what is the training (sikkhā)?
There are four trainings: the training of bhikkhus is the bhikkhu-training; the training of bhikkhunīs is the bhikkhunī-training; the training of male lay followers (upāsaka) is the upāsaka-training; the training of female lay followers (upāsikā) is the upāsikā-training. These are called the trainings.
With regard to these trainings, he conducts himself having undertaken them wholly and entirely, in every way entirely, without remainder, without residue. Therefore it is said: "having undertaken them, he trains in the training rules."
