[643] "Having abandoned doubt (vicikicchā)": Herein, what is doubt? That which is perplexity, being perplexed, the state of being perplexed, puzzlement, doubt, being in two minds, a forked path, uncertainty, not grasping decisively, evasiveness, hesitancy, failure to plunge in, rigidity of the mind (citta), mental scarifying — this is called doubt. This doubt is calmed, quieted, allayed, extinguished, fully extinguished, destroyed, utterly destroyed, dried up, utterly dried up, brought to an end. Therefore it is said, "having abandoned doubt."
