[798] The bases of knowledge (ñāṇavatthu) by way of fours: knowledge of ownership of kamma (kammassakataṃ ñāṇaṃ), knowledge in conformity with the truths (saccānulomikaṃ ñāṇaṃ), knowledge of one possessing the path (maggasamaṅgissa ñāṇaṃ), knowledge of one possessing the fruition (phalasamaṅgissa ñāṇaṃ); knowledge of suffering (dukkha), knowledge of the origin (samudaya) of suffering, knowledge of the cessation (nirodha) of suffering, knowledge of the practice (paṭipadā) leading to the cessation of suffering; wisdom pertaining to the sense sphere (kāmāvacarā paññā), wisdom pertaining to the form sphere (rūpāvacarā paññā), wisdom pertaining to the formless sphere (arūpāvacarā paññā), wisdom not included [in the three spheres] (apariyāpannā paññā); knowledge of the Dhamma (dhamme ñāṇaṃ), knowledge of inference (anvaye ñāṇaṃ), knowledge of encompassing (paricce ñāṇaṃ), conventional knowledge (sammati-ñāṇaṃ). There is wisdom conducive to accumulation (ācaya) and not to dispersal (apacaya); there is wisdom conducive to dispersal and not to accumulation; there is wisdom conducive both to accumulation and to dispersal; there is wisdom conducive neither to accumulation nor to dispersal. There is wisdom conducive to disenchantment (nibbidā) and not to penetration (paṭivedha); there is wisdom conducive to penetration and not to disenchantment; there is wisdom conducive both to disenchantment and to penetration; there is wisdom conducive neither to disenchantment nor to penetration. Wisdom partaking of decline (hānabhāginī paññā), wisdom partaking of stability (ṭhitibhāginī paññā), wisdom partaking of distinction (visesabhāginī paññā), wisdom partaking of penetration (nibbedhabhāginī paññā); the four analytic insights (paṭisambhidā); the four modes of practice (paṭipadā); the four objects (ārammaṇāni). Knowledge of aging and death (jarāmaraṇa), knowledge of the origin of aging and death, knowledge of the cessation of aging and death, knowledge of the practice leading to the cessation of aging and death; knowledge of birth (jāti) …; knowledge of existence (bhava) …; knowledge of clinging (upādāna) …; knowledge of craving (taṇhā) …; knowledge of feeling (vedanā) …; knowledge of contact (phassa) …; knowledge of the six sense bases (saḷāyatana) …; knowledge of name-and-form (nāmarūpa) …; knowledge of consciousness (viññāṇa) …; knowledge of volitional formations (saṅkhārā), knowledge of the origin of volitional formations, knowledge of the cessation of volitional formations, knowledge of the practice leading to the cessation of volitional formations.
