[909] Therein, what is detraction (makkha)? That which is detraction, the act of detracting (makkhiyanā), the state of detraction (makkhiyitatta), spite (niṭṭhuriya), spiteful action (niṭṭhuriyakamma) — this is called detraction.
Therein, what is rivalry (palāsa)? That which is rivalry, the act of rivalling (palāsāyanā), the state of rivalry (palāsāyitatta), the fomenting of rivalry (palāsāhāra), a ground for dispute (vivādaṭṭhāna), vying (yugaggāha), refusal to give way (appaṭinissagga) — this is called rivalry.
