[938] Therein, which are the three fears (bhayāni)?
The fear of birth (jātibhaya), the fear of aging (jarābhaya), the fear of death (maraṇabhaya).
Therein, what is the fear of birth?
Dependent on birth (jātiṃ paṭicca), fear (bhayaṃ), fearfulness (bhayānakaṃ), consternation (chambhitattaṃ), horripilation (lomahaṃso), alarm of mind (cetaso utrāso) — this is called the fear of birth.
Therein, what is the fear of aging?
Dependent on aging, fear, fearfulness, consternation, horripilation, alarm of mind — this is called the fear of aging.
Therein, what is the fear of death?
Dependent on death, fear, fearfulness, consternation, horripilation, alarm of mind — this is called the fear of death.
