[981] Therein, which are the five kinds of mental barrenness (cetokhila)? One doubts, is uncertain, is undecided, and lacks confidence in the Teacher (satthā); one doubts, is uncertain, is undecided, and lacks confidence in the Dhamma; one doubts, is uncertain, is undecided, and lacks confidence in the Saṅgha; one doubts, is uncertain, is undecided, and lacks confidence in the training (sikkhā); one is angry toward one's companions in the holy life (sabrahmacārī), displeased, with a resentful mind (āhatacitta), grown barren (khilajāta). These are the five kinds of mental barrenness.
