[1023] [Sakavādin:] By the path of arahantship (arahattamagga) does one abandon subtle sensual lust (aṇusahagata kāmarāga) and subtle ill will (byāpāda)? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] But was not the abandonment without remainder (anavasesappahāna) of sensual lust and ill will declared by the Blessed One to be the fruition of non-returning (anāgāmiphala)? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] If the abandonment without remainder of sensual lust and ill will was declared by the Blessed One to be the fruition of non-returning, then indeed you should not say, "All fetters (saññojana) are abandoned by the path of arahantship."
