Abhidhammapiṭaka · Kathāvatthu · Vol. 37 · Section 115

[115] [Sakavādin:] Is there a designation (paññatti) of the person (puggala) in each and every mind (citta)? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] In each and every mind, is the person born, does he age, die, pass away, and reappear? [Paravādin:] It should not be said thus. … [Sakavādin:] When the second mind has arisen, can it not be said "the same" or "another"? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] When the second mind has arisen, can it not be said "a boy" or "a girl"? [Paravādin:] It can be said. [Sakavādin:] Acknowledge the refutation (niggaha)! If, when the second mind has arisen, it cannot be said "the same" or "another", then indeed, good sir, you must say that, when the second mind has arisen, it cannot be said "a boy" or "a girl". What you say there — namely, that it is to be affirmed that, when the second mind has arisen, it cannot be said "the same" or "another", and yet, when the second mind has arisen, it can be said "a boy" or "a girl" — is wrong. Or if, on the other hand, when the second mind has arisen, it can be said "a boy" or "a girl", then indeed, good sir, you must say that, when the second mind has arisen, it can be said "the same" or "another". What you say there — namely, that it is to be affirmed that, when the second mind has arisen, it cannot be said "the same" or "another", and yet, when the second mind has arisen, it can be said "a boy" or "a girl" — is wrong.
