[1151] Sakavādī: Does merit produced by use (paribhogamayaṃ puññaṃ) increase? Paravādī: Yes. Sakavādī: A donor (dāyaka) gives a gift (dāna); the recipient (paṭiggāhaka), having accepted it, does not use it but discards it, relinquishes it — is there merit? Paravādī: Yes. Sakavādī: If a donor gives a gift, and the recipient, having accepted it, does not use it but discards it, relinquishes it, and there is merit, then indeed, good sir, you should not say: "Merit produced by use increases."
