[1155] "Should it not be said: 'They subsist there by means of what is given from here'?" — "Yes." "But do not the petas (petā) rejoice (anumodanti) at one giving a gift (dāna) for their own benefit, make their minds (citta) serene, arouse rapture (pīti), and obtain joy (somanassa)?" — "Yes." "If the petas rejoice at one giving a gift for their own benefit, make their minds serene, arouse rapture, and obtain joy, then indeed, good sir, it must be said: 'They subsist there by means of what is given from here.'"
