[1158] Sakavādī: Is the earth (paṭhavī) a result of kamma (kammavipāka)?
Paravādī: Yes.
S: Is the earth to be experienced as pleasant, to be experienced as painful, or to be experienced as neither painful nor pleasant? Is it associated (sampayutta) with pleasant feeling (vedanā), associated with painful feeling, associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling? Is it associated with contact (phassa), associated with feeling, associated with perception (saññā), associated with volition (cetanā), associated with mind (citta)? Does it have an object (sārammaṇā)? Is there for it adverting (āvajjanā), ideation (ābhoga), consideration (samannāhāra), attention (manasikāra), volition, aspiration (patthanā), or resolve (paṇidhi)?
P: It should not be said thus. …
S: Is it not the case that the earth is not to be experienced as pleasant, not to be experienced as painful, not to be experienced as neither painful nor pleasant; that it is not associated with pleasant feeling, not associated with painful feeling, not associated with neither-painful-nor-pleasant feeling; that it is not associated with contact, not associated with feeling, not associated with perception, not associated with volition, not associated with mind; that it is without an object (anārammaṇā); and that there is not for it adverting, ideation, consideration, attention, volition, aspiration, or resolve?
P: Yes.
S: If the earth is not to be experienced as pleasant, not to be experienced as painful, … is without an object, and there is not for it adverting … resolve, then indeed it should not be said that the earth is a result of kamma.
