[1214] Sakavādin: Are only the five sense bases (āyatana) sensual pleasures (kāmā)? Paravādin: Yes. S.: Is there not desire (chanda) connected with them? P.: Yes. S.: If there is desire connected with them, then indeed, good sir, you should not say, 'Only the five sense bases are sensual pleasures.' S.: Is there not lust (rāga) connected with them, desire-and-lust (chandarāga) connected with them, thought (saṅkappa) connected with them, lust connected with them, thought-and-lust (saṅkapparāga) connected with them, rapture (pīti) connected with them, joy (somanassa) connected with them, rapture-and-joy (pītisomanassa) connected with them? P.: Yes. S.: If there is rapture-and-joy connected with them, then indeed, good sir, you should not say, 'Only the five sense bases are sensual pleasures.'
