[1215] [P.] Should it not be said: "Only the five sense bases (āyatana) are sensual pleasures (kāmā)"?
[S.] Yes.
[P.] But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, there are these five strands of sensual pleasure (kāmaguṇā). Which five? Forms cognizable by the eye … tangible objects (phoṭṭhabba) cognizable by the body — wished for, desired, agreeable, likeable, connected with sensual pleasure, enticing. These, bhikkhus, are the five strands of sensual pleasure"? Does such a discourse really exist?
[S.] Yes.
[P.] Then surely only the five sense bases are sensual pleasures.
