[1391] [Paravādin:] Should it not be said: "There is development of the path (magga-bhāvanā) for one endowed with the five consciousnesses (pañcaviññāṇasamaṅgī)"?
[Sakavādin:] Yes.
[Paravādin:] But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Here, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu, having seen a form (rūpa) with the eye, is not one who grasps at the sign (nimitta), not one who grasps at the secondary features (anubyañjana) … having heard a sound with the ear … having smelled an odour with the nose … having tasted a flavour with the tongue … having touched a tangible object (phoṭṭhabba) with the body, is not one who grasps at the sign, not one who grasps at the secondary features"?¹ Is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
[Sakavādin:] Yes.
[Paravādin:] Then indeed there is development of the path for one endowed with the five consciousnesses.
