[1553] [Sakavādin:] Does the unwholesome root (akusalamūla) re-link in succession (paṭisandahati) to the wholesome root (kusalamūla)?
[Paravādin:] Yes.
[Sakavādin:] Whatever adverting (āvajjanā) … aspiration (paṇidhi) there is for the arising of the wholesome (kusala) — is that very adverting … aspiration for the arising of the unwholesome (akusala)?
[Paravādin:] It should not be said so. …
[Sakavādin:] The unwholesome root re-links in succession to the wholesome root, and yet it should not be said: "Whatever adverting … aspiration there is for the arising of the wholesome, that very adverting … aspiration is for the arising of the unwholesome"?
[Paravādin:] Yes.
[Sakavādin:] Does the unwholesome arise for one who is not adverting … arise for one who is not aspiring?
[Paravādin:] It should not be said so. …
[Sakavādin:] Does not the unwholesome arise for one who is adverting … arise for one who is aspiring?
[Paravādin:] Yes.
[Sakavādin:] If the unwholesome arises for one who is adverting … arises for one who is aspiring, then truly it should not be said: "The unwholesome root re-links in succession to the wholesome root."
