[1554] Sakavādin: Does an unwholesome root (akusalamūla) link on to a wholesome root (kusalamūla)? Paravādin: Yes. Sakavādin: Does the wholesome (kusala) arise for one who attends properly (yoniso manasikaroto)? Paravādin: Yes. Sakavādin: Does the unwholesome (akusala) arise for one who attends properly? Paravādin: That should not be said. … Sakavādin: Is it not the case that the unwholesome arises for one who attends improperly (ayoniso)? Paravādin: Yes. Sakavādin: If the unwholesome arises for one who attends improperly, then surely it should not be said that "an unwholesome root links on to a wholesome root."
