[1560] "Is it not to be said: 'For one in the mother's womb, head hairs, body hairs, nails, teeth, and bones arise afterwards'?"
"Yes."
"But was it not said by the Blessed One:
'First there is the kalala (embryonic drop); from the kalala comes the ambuda (swelling);
from the ambuda is born the pesī (fleshy lump); from the pesī comes into being the ghana (solid mass);
from the ghana the pasākhā (limb-buds) are born, and the head hairs, body hairs, and nails as well;
and whatever his mother consumes — food and drink and nourishment —
by that he is sustained there, the person in the mother's womb'?¹

Is there indeed such a discourse?"

"Then indeed, for one in the mother's womb, head hairs, body hairs, nails, teeth, and bones do arise afterwards."
