[Sakavādin:] Is the adverting (āvajjanā) … the directing (paṇidhi) that is for the arising of eye-consciousness the very same adverting … directing for the arising of ear-consciousness?
[Paravādin:] It should not be said thus. …
[Sakavādin:] Ear-consciousness arises immediately after eye-consciousness, and yet it should not be said that the adverting … directing that is for the arising of eye-consciousness is the very same adverting … directing for the arising of ear-consciousness?
[Paravādin:] Yes.
[Sakavādin:] Does ear-consciousness arise for one who is not adverting … does it arise for one who is not directing [the mind]?
[Paravādin:] It should not be said thus. …
