[1652] S. Does one person uplift the mind (citta) of another? P. Yes. S. Is one person the doer for another? Is happiness and suffering (sukhadukkha) wrought by another — does one act and another experience? P. It should not be said thus. … S. Does one person uplift the mind of another? P. Yes. S. Was it not said by the Blessed One: "By oneself alone is evil done … no one purifies another" — does such a discourse (suttanta) indeed exist? P. Yes. S. Well then, it should not be said that one person uplifts the mind of another.
