[170] [Sakavādin:] Taking it that "there is a Stream-Enterer (sotāpanna)," and for that reason, is the person (puggala) apprehended (upalabbhati) in the sense of a real and ultimate fact (sacchikaṭṭha-paramaṭṭha)? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] Is there anyone who, not having been a Stream-Enterer, becomes a Stream-Enterer? [Paravādin:] Yes. [Sakavādin:] Is there anyone who, not having been a person, becomes a person? [Paravādin:] It should not be said thus. … [Sakavādin:] Is there anyone who, not having been a Once-Returner (sakadāgāmī), not having been a Non-Returner (anāgāmī), not having been an Arahant, not having been one liberated in both ways (ubhatobhāgavimutta), not having been one liberated by wisdom (paññāvimutta), not having been a body-witness (kāyasakkhī), not having been one attained to right view (diṭṭhippatta), not having been one liberated by faith (saddhāvimutta), not having been a truth-devotee (dhammānusārī), not having been a faith-devotee (saddhānusārī), becomes a faith-devotee?
