[1716] S. Is it not the case that there are some who, having given robes (cīvara) to the Saṅgha … having given almsfood (piṇḍapāta) … having given lodging (senāsana), having given medicinal requisites for the sick (gilāna-paccaya-bhesajja-parikkhāra), having given hard food (khādanīya), having given soft food (bhojanīya) … having given drinking water (pānīya), make the offering (dakkhiṇā) effective? P. Yes. S. If there are some who, having given drinking water to the Saṅgha, make the offering effective, then indeed, sir, it should be said: "The Saṅgha purifies the offering."
