[1739] S.: It should not be said: "The Dhamma was taught by the Buddha, the Blessed One"?
P.: Yes.
S.: But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, I teach the Dhamma through direct knowledge (abhiññā), not without direct knowledge; I teach the Dhamma with a causal basis (sanidāna), not without a causal basis; I teach the Dhamma accompanied by marvels (sappāṭihāriya), not without marvels. And since, bhikkhus, I teach the Dhamma through direct knowledge and not without direct knowledge, teach the Dhamma with a causal basis and not without a causal basis, teach the Dhamma accompanied by marvels and not without marvels, my exhortation (ovāda) is to be acted upon, my instruction (anusāsanī) is to be acted upon. And it is enough, bhikkhus, for your contentment, enough for your satisfaction, enough for your joy (somanassa), [to reflect]: 'The Blessed One is fully self-enlightened (sammāsambuddha), the Dhamma is well proclaimed (svākkhāta), the Saṅgha is practicing well (suppaṭipanna)'" — and while this exposition (veyyākaraṇa) was being spoken, the ten-thousandfold world-system (dasasahassī lokadhātu) shook? Is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
P.: Yes.
S.: If so, then the Dhamma was taught by the Buddha, the Blessed One.
