[1742] S. (Sakavādin): Is there no compassion (karuṇā) of the Buddha, the Blessed One?
P. (Paravādin): Yes.
S.: Is the Blessed One devoid of compassion?
P.: It should not be said thus. …
S.: Is not the Blessed One compassionate, a benefactor of the world, one who sympathizes with the world, one who acts for the welfare of the world?
P.: Yes.
S.: If the Blessed One is compassionate, a benefactor of the world, one who sympathizes with the world, one who acts for the welfare of the world, then indeed, good sir, it should not be said that there is no compassion of the Buddha, the Blessed One.
