[1792] Sakavādin: Is there absolute fixedness [of destiny] (accantaniyāmatā)¹ for a worldling (puthujjana)? Paravādin: Yes. S. Is one who has killed his mother (mātughātaka) absolutely fixed? Is one who has killed his father (pitughātaka) … one who has killed an Arahant (arahantaghātaka) … one who has shed [a Tathāgata's] blood (ruhiruppādaka) … one who has caused schism in the Order (saṅghabhedaka) absolutely fixed? P. It should not be said so. … S. Is there absolute fixedness for a worldling? P. Yes. S. Could doubt (vicikicchā) arise in a person who is absolutely fixed? P. Yes. S. If doubt could arise in a person who is absolutely fixed, then indeed you should not say that there is absolute fixedness for a worldling. ________ ¹ [Siam Raṭṭha editorial note:] The Burmese edition reads "-niyamatā"; the reading appears thus throughout.
