[1800] Sakavādin: It was said by the Blessed One: "Here, bhikkhus, a certain person is endowed with exclusively black unwholesome phenomena (akusalā dhammā); he, having sunk once, remains sunk." Taking it thus, and on that ground, is there absolute fixedness (accantaniyāmatā) for the worldling (puthujjana)?
Paravādin: Yes.
Sakavādin: It was said by the Blessed One: "Here, bhikkhus, a certain person, having emerged, remains steady; having emerged, he sees clearly and looks about; having emerged, he swims across; having emerged, he has gained a firm footing."[1] Is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
Paravādin: Yes.
Sakavādin: Is he at all times one who, having emerged, has gained a firm footing?
Paravādin: It should not be said thus. …
