[1799] S. It was said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, here a certain person is endowed with unwholesome phenomena (dhammā) that are exclusively black; he, having sunk once, remains sunk." Taking it thus, and by that reason, is there absolute fixity (accantaniyāmatā) for the worldling (puthujjana)? P. Yes. S. It was said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, here a certain person, having emerged, sinks down" — does such a discourse (suttanta) indeed exist? P. Yes. S. Does he at all times, having emerged, sink down? P. It should not be said thus. …
