[1799] S. It was said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, here a certain person is endowed with unwholesome phenomena (dhammā) that are exclusively black; he, having sunk once, remains sunk." Taking it thus, and by that reason, is there absolute fixity (accantaniyāmatā) for the worldling (puthujjana)?

S. It was said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, here a certain person, having emerged, sinks down" — does such a discourse (suttanta) indeed exist?
P. Yes.
S. Does he at all times, having emerged, sink down?
P. It should not be said thus. …
