[1890] S. Did the Bodhisatta perform the practice of austerities (dukkarakārikā) by reason of the free exercise of sovereign will (issariyakāmakārikā)?
P. Yes.
S. Is there indeed a discourse (suttanta) [to the effect that] "the Bodhisatta performed the practice of austerities by reason of the free exercise of sovereign will"?
P. There is not.
S. If indeed there is no discourse [to the effect that] "the Bodhisatta performed the practice of austerities by reason of the free exercise of sovereign will," then indeed you should not say: "The Bodhisatta performed the practice of austerities by reason of the free exercise of sovereign will."
