[1891] S. Did the Bodhisatta, by reason of his free exercise of mastery (issariyakāmakārikā-hetu), perform a further austerity (aparantapa) and dedicate himself to another teacher?
P. Yes.
S. Did the Bodhisatta, by reason of his free exercise of mastery, revert to [the view] "The world is eternal" … revert to [the view] "The Tathāgata neither exists nor does not exist after death"?
P. It should not be said thus. …
S. Did the Bodhisatta, by reason of his free exercise of mastery, dedicate himself to another teacher?
P. Yes.
S. Is there indeed a Suttanta [stating]: "The Bodhisatta, by reason of his free exercise of mastery, dedicated himself to another teacher"?
P. There is not.
S. If there is indeed no Suttanta [stating]: "The Bodhisatta, by reason of his free exercise of mastery, dedicated himself to another teacher," then indeed you should not say: "The Bodhisatta, by reason of his free exercise of mastery, dedicated himself to another teacher."
