[244] S. An Arahant who is temporarily liberated (samayavimutta) is devoid of lust (vītarāga), devoid of hatred, devoid of delusion; he has done what was to be done, laid down the burden, attained his own goal, utterly destroyed the fetters (saṃyojana) of existence, and is liberated through right final knowledge (sammadaññā); he is one whose cross-bar is lifted, whose trench is filled in, whose pillar is drawn out, who has no bolt; a noble one whose banner is lowered, whose burden is put down, who is unfettered, whose victory is fully won. By him suffering (dukkha) has been fully understood, the origin (samudaya) abandoned, cessation (nirodha) realized, the path (magga) developed; what should be directly known has been directly known, what should be fully understood has been fully understood, what should be abandoned has been abandoned, what should be developed has been developed, what should be realized has been realized. Does the temporarily liberated Arahant fall away from Arahantship?
