[406] S. Should it not be said: "The aggregates (khandhā), elements (dhātu), and sense bases (āyatana) that are past and future — these do not exist"? P. Yes. S. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, there are these three pathways of language (niruttipathā), pathways of designation (adhivacanapathā), and pathways of concept (paññattipathā) … by the wise" — is there indeed such a sutta? P. Yes. S. Therefore it should not be said: "The aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are past and future — these do not exist."
