[666] P. Should it not be said, "realization (abhisamaya) is gradual"?
S. Yes.
P. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, just as the great ocean slopes down gradually, inclines gradually, shelves gradually, and does not drop off in an abrupt precipice, even so, bhikkhus, in this Dhamma and Discipline (dhammavinaya) there is gradual training, gradual action, gradual practice; there is no abrupt penetration to final knowledge (aññā)" — is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
S. Yes.
P. If so, then realization is gradual.
