[667] P. Is it not to be said: "Realization is gradual (anupubbābhisamaya)"? S. Yes. P. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Gradually, the wise one — little by little, moment by moment — should remove his own stain, as a smith the dross of silver"? Is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)? S. Yes. P. Then indeed, realization is gradual.
