[668] Should it not be said: "Realization is gradual (anupubbābhisamaya)"? — Yes.
But did not the Venerable Elder Gavampati say this to the bhikkhus: "Friends, I have heard this in the presence of the Blessed One, in his presence I received it: 'Bhikkhus, one who sees suffering (dukkha) also sees the origin (samudaya) of suffering, also sees the cessation (nirodha) of suffering, also sees the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering (dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā). One who sees the origin of suffering also sees suffering, also sees the cessation of suffering, also sees the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering. One who sees the cessation of suffering also sees suffering, also sees the origin of suffering, also sees the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering. One who sees the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering also sees suffering, also sees the origin of suffering, also sees the cessation of suffering.'"¹ Is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)? — Yes.
Then indeed it should not be said: "Realization is gradual."
