[808] S. Are there only two eyes?
P. Yes.
S. But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, there are these three eyes. Which three? The fleshly eye (maṃsacakkhu), the divine eye (dibbacakkhu), and the eye of wisdom (paññācakkhu). These, bhikkhus, are the three eyes.
The fleshly eye, the divine eye, the unsurpassed eye of wisdom —
these three eyes the Supreme among Men has declared.
The arising of the fleshly eye is the path to the divine eye;
and when knowledge (ñāṇa) has arisen — the unsurpassed eye of wisdom —
then, through the obtaining of that eye, one is released from all suffering (dukkha)."
Is there really such a sutta?
P. Yes.
S. Then indeed it should not be said, "There are only two eyes."
