[835] [Sakavādin:] "There is among humans (manussesu) abstinence from the destruction of life (pāṇātipātā veramaṇī); is there the destruction of life there?" [Paravādin:] "Yes." [Sakavādin:] "There is among the gods (devesu) abstinence from the destruction of life; is there the destruction of life there?" [Paravādin:] "It should not be said thus." … [Sakavādin:] "There is among humans abstinence from liquor, wine, and intoxicants that occasion heedlessness (surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhānā veramaṇī); is there indulgence in liquor, wine, and intoxicants that occasion heedlessness there?" [Paravādin:] "Yes." [Sakavādin:] "There is among the gods abstinence from liquor, wine, and intoxicants that occasion heedlessness; is there indulgence in liquor, wine, and intoxicants that occasion heedlessness there?"
