[974] S.: Was it not at the foot of the Bodhi tree that the four fruits of the monkhood (sāmaññaphala) were fully awakened to by the Blessed One? P.: Yes. S.: If the four fruits of the monkhood were fully awakened to by the Blessed One at the foot of the Bodhi tree, then indeed, good sir, it should not be said that "the Bodhisatta had entered the fixed course [of rightness] (okkanta-niyāma) and had lived the holy life (brahmacariya) in the dispensation (pāvacana) of the Blessed One Kassapa."
