[804] Is that which is not eye (cakkhu) not the eye element (cakkhudhātu)? — Yes (āmantā). Is that which is not the eye element not eye? — The divine eye (dibbacakkhu) and the eye of wisdom (paññācakkhu) are not the eye element but are eye; setting aside eye and the eye element, the remainder is neither eye nor the eye element. Is that which is not ear (sota) not the ear element (sotadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the ear element not ear? — The divine ear (dibbasota) and the stream of craving (taṇhāsota) are not the ear element but are ear; setting aside ear and the ear element, the remainder is neither ear nor the ear element. Is that which is not nose (ghāna) not the nose element (ghānadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the nose element not nose? — Yes. Where there is abbreviation, [the answer is] "Yes" on both sides. Is that which is not tongue (jivhā) … Is that which is not body (kāya) not the body element (kāyadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the body element not body? — Setting aside the body element, the remaining body is not the body element but is body; setting aside body and the body element, the remainder is neither body nor the body element. Is that which is not form (rūpa) not the form element (rūpadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the form element not form? — Setting aside the form element, the remaining form is not the form element but is form; setting aside form and the form element, the remainder is neither form nor the form element. Is that which is not sound (sadda) … Is that which is not odour (gandha) not the odour element (gandhadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the odour element not odour? — The odour of virtue (sīlagandha), the odour of concentration (samādhigandha), and the odour of wisdom (paññāgandha) are not the odour element but are odour; setting aside odour and the odour element, the remainder is neither odour nor the odour element. Is that which is not taste (rasa) not the taste element (rasadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the taste element not taste? — The taste of meaning (attharasa), the taste of the Dhamma (dhammarasa), and the taste of liberation (vimuttirasa) are not the taste element but are taste; setting aside taste and the taste element, the remainder is neither taste nor the taste element. Is that which is not tangible (phoṭṭhabba) … Is that which is not eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa) not the eye-consciousness element (cakkhuviññāṇadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the eye-consciousness element not eye-consciousness? — Yes. Not ear-consciousness (sotaviññāṇa), not nose-consciousness (ghānaviññāṇa), not tongue-consciousness (jivhāviññāṇa), not body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa). Is that which is not mind (mano) not the mind element (manodhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the mind element not mind? — Setting aside the mind element, the remaining mind is not the mind element but is mind; setting aside mind and the mind element, the remainder is neither mind nor the mind element. Is that which is not mind-consciousness (manoviññāṇa) not the mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the mind-consciousness element not mind-consciousness? — Yes. Is that which is not dhamma not the dhamma element (dhammadhātu)? — Yes. Is that which is not the dhamma element not dhamma? — Setting aside the dhamma element, the remaining dhamma is not the dhamma element but is dhamma; setting aside dhamma and the dhamma element, the remainder is neither dhamma nor the dhamma element. ___________
