[106] Now at that time a certain man who had been whipped as a judicial punishment (kasāhata katadaṇḍakamma) had gone forth among the bhikkhus. People looked down upon this, criticized it, and spread it about, saying: "How can the ascetics, sons of the Sakyan, give the going forth to one who has been whipped as a judicial punishment?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One.
"Bhikkhus, one who has been whipped as a judicial punishment should not be given the going forth. Whoever should give the going forth commits an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa)."
