[107] Now at that time a certain man who had been branded as a punishment inflicted upon him (lakkhaṇāhata katadaṇḍakamma) had gone forth among the bhikkhus. People complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can the ascetics, sons of the Sakyan, give the going forth to one who has been branded as a punishment inflicted upon him?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One.
"Bhikkhus, one who has been branded as a punishment inflicted upon him should not be given the going forth. Whoever should give the going forth commits an offense of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa)."
