[148] Now at that time the bhikkhus [understood]: "It has been allowed by the Blessed One to assemble on the fourteenth, the fifteenth, and the eighth day of the fortnight." So they assembled on the fourteenth, the fifteenth, and the eighth day of the fortnight and sat in silence. People approached them in order to hear the Dhamma. They complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying: "How can these ascetics, sons of the Sakyan, having assembled on the fourteenth, the fifteenth, and the eighth day of the fortnight, sit in silence like dumb pigs? Ought not the Dhamma to be spoken by those who have assembled?" The bhikkhus heard those people complaining, criticizing, and spreading it about. Then those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, on that occasion, in that connection, having given a talk on the Dhamma, addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having assembled on the fourteenth, the fifteenth, and the eighth day of the fortnight, to speak the Dhamma."
