[155] Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus (chabbaggiyā), thinking, "The Blessed One has allowed the authorization of a boundary (sīmā)," authorized excessively large boundaries—of four yojanas, of five yojanas, even of six yojanas. Bhikkhus coming for the Uposatha would arrive while the Pātimokkha was still being recited, would arrive only when it had just been recited, or would even stay overnight along the way. They reported this matter to the Blessed One.
"Bhikkhus, an excessively large boundary—of four yojanas, five yojanas, or six yojanas—should not be authorized. Whoever should authorize one commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
"Bhikkhus, I allow a boundary of three yojanas at most to be authorized."
