[158] Now at that time, in a certain residence two uposatha halls (uposathāgāra) had been designated. The bhikkhus gathered in both places, thinking: "The uposatha will be performed here; the uposatha will be performed here." They reported this matter to the Blessed One.
"Bhikkhus, in one residence two uposatha halls should not be designated. Whoever should so designate them commits an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
"I allow, bhikkhus, having revoked one, the performance of the uposatha in the one place.
"And thus, bhikkhus, should it be revoked. The Saṅgha should be informed by a competent and capable bhikkhu:
"'Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. If it is the proper time for the Saṅgha, let the Saṅgha revoke the uposatha hall named so-and-so. This is the motion (ñatti).
"'Venerable sirs, let the Saṅgha listen to me. The Saṅgha revokes the uposatha hall named so-and-so. Whichever venerable one approves of the revocation of the uposatha hall named so-and-so, let him be silent; whoever does not approve, let him speak.
"'The uposatha hall named so-and-so has been revoked by the Saṅgha. It is approved by the Saṅgha; therefore it is silent. Thus do I hold it.'"
