[178] Now at that time bhikkhus, not knowing "today is the Uposatha," went for alms to a distant village. They arrived while the Pātimokkha was being recited, and they arrived when it had only just been recited. They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, I allow it to be announced: 'Today is the Uposatha.'"
Then it occurred to the bhikkhus: "By whom, indeed, should it be announced?" They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, I allow an elder bhikkhu to announce it in good time."
Now at that time a certain elder forgot to announce it in good time. They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, I allow it to be announced even at the time of the meal." Even at the time of the meal he forgot. They informed the Blessed One of this matter. "Bhikkhus, I allow it to be announced at whatever time one remembers."
