Vinayapiṭaka · Mahāvagga (1) · Vol. 4 · Section 208

[208] Now at that time the bhikkhus of the group of six did not wish to enter upon the rains residence (vassa). They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, the rains residence must not be left unentered. Whoever should not enter it commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)." Now at that time the bhikkhus of the group of six, not wishing to enter upon the rains residence on the day for entering the rains (vassūpanāyikā), deliberately passed by a residence (āvāsa). They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, one who does not wish to enter upon the rains residence on the day for entering the rains must not deliberately pass by a residence. Whoever should pass one by commits an offense of wrong-doing."
