[223] Summary verse (uddāna):
Entering [the rains], and when; how many [days for entering the rains];
and [wandering] during the rains (antarā vassa);
those unwilling [to enter]; deliberately [not entering];
postponing [the rains season]; a lay follower [who built a dwelling];
one who is sick; mother and father;
brother, and then a relative;
a man in the bhikkhus' service; a dwelling [in disrepair];
beasts of prey and also creeping creatures;
robbers and likewise demons (pisāca);
burnt [by fire], and by both of these;
carried off by the water; [the villagers] moved away;
and the donors [elsewhere] more numerous;
by coarse or fine [food], by suitable [food]
and medicine, and by an attendant;
a woman, a courtesan, and an unmarried woman [past her prime];
a paṇḍaka, and by relatives;
a king, robbers, scoundrels, a treasure;
and schism in the eightfold way;
herds [of cattle], a caravan, and a boat;
in a hollow [tree] and in the fork of a tree;
rains residence in the open air,
and one without a lodging;
a charnel hut, under a sunshade,
and in a great jar — [thus] they took up [residence];
an agreement; having given a promise;
and the Uposatha outside;
the earlier and the later [entry to the rains]
one should apply according to the proper method;
one with no business departs,
and likewise one with business;
and again for two or three days,
and on business [allowable] for seven days;
and when seven days remain [before the Invitation],
whether he should come or should not come —
in the recital of the topics, by these divisions,
one should attend to the course of the text.
In this khandhaka there are fifty-two topics.
