[230] Now at that time, on that day of the invitation (pavāraṇā), relatives seized a certain bhikkhu. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, here relatives seize a bhikkhu on the day of the invitation. Those relatives should be told by the bhikkhus: 'Please, sirs, release this bhikkhu for a moment, until this bhikkhu has made his invitation.' If this can be obtained, it is well; if it cannot be obtained, those relatives should be told by the bhikkhus: 'Please, sirs, stand aside for a moment, until this bhikkhu gives his invitation.' If this can be obtained, it is well; if it cannot be obtained, those relatives should be told by the bhikkhus: 'Please, sirs, take this bhikkhu outside the boundary for a moment, until the Saṅgha has made the invitation.' If this can be obtained, it is well; if it cannot be obtained, then in no case should the invitation be performed by an incomplete Saṅgha. Should it perform it, there is an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa).
"Bhikkhus, here again, on the day of the invitation, kings seize a bhikkhu, robbers seize him, scoundrels seize him, enemies of bhikkhus seize him. Those enemies of bhikkhus should be told by the bhikkhus: 'Please, sirs, release this bhikkhu for a moment, until this bhikkhu has made his invitation.' If this can be obtained, it is well; if it cannot be obtained, those enemies of bhikkhus should be told by the bhikkhus: 'Please, sirs, stand aside for a moment, until this bhikkhu gives his invitation.' If this can be obtained, it is well; if it cannot be obtained, those enemies of bhikkhus should be told by the bhikkhus: 'Please, sirs, take this bhikkhu outside the boundary for a moment, until the Saṅgha has made the invitation.'
