[1169] A phenomenon (dhamma) associated with pleasant feeling (sukhā vedanā) is a condition, by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya), for a phenomenon associated with pleasant feeling: object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), proximity decisive-support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on faith (saddhā) associated with pleasant feeling, one gives a gift with a mind (citta) associated with pleasant feeling, undertakes virtue (sīla), performs the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), arouses jhāna associated with pleasant feeling, arouses insight (vipassanā), arouses the path (magga), arouses superknowledge (abhiññā), arouses attainment (samāpatti), gives rise to conceit (māna), grasps a view (diṭṭhi).
In dependence on virtue associated with pleasant feeling … learning (suta), generosity (cāga), wisdom (paññā), lust (rāga), delusion (moha), conceit, view, longing (patthanā) … body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa) accompanied by pleasure, one gives a gift with a mind associated with pleasant feeling. (In brief.) One arouses attainment.
In the five with faith as the fifth (saddhāpañcamaka), "gives rise to conceit, grasps a view" should be supplied; in the remaining ones it should not be supplied.
With a mind associated with pleasant feeling, one takes what is not given, speaks falsehood, speaks divisively, speaks harshly, utters idle chatter, breaks into houses, carries off plunder, raids a solitary house, waits in ambush on the highway, goes to another's wife, sacks a village, sacks a market town.
Faith associated with pleasant feeling … virtue, learning, generosity, wisdom, lust, delusion, conceit, view, longing … body-consciousness accompanied by pleasure is a condition, by decisive-support condition, for faith associated with pleasant feeling, for virtue, learning, generosity, wisdom, lust, delusion, conceit, view, and longing, for body-consciousness accompanied by pleasure, and for the aggregates (khandhā) associated with pleasant feeling.
