[1170] A phenomenon (dhamma) associated (sampayutta) with pleasant feeling (vedanā) is a condition for a phenomenon associated with painful feeling by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya) — natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya):
Depending on faith (saddhā) associated with pleasant feeling, one torments oneself, tortures oneself, and experiences the suffering (dukkha) rooted in seeking (pariyiṭṭhi).
Depending on virtue (sīla) associated with pleasant feeling … learning (suta) … generosity (cāga) … wisdom (paññā), one torments oneself, tortures oneself, and experiences the suffering rooted in seeking.
Depending on lust (rāga) associated with pleasant feeling … delusion (moha), conceit (māna), view (diṭṭhi), longing (patthanā) … body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa) accompanied by pleasure, one kills a living being.
With a mind (citta) associated with painful feeling, one takes what is not given, speaks falsehood, speaks divisively, speaks harshly, utters idle chatter, breaks into houses, carries off plunder, robs a single house, lies in wait on the highway, goes to another's wife, pillages a village, pillages a market town, deprives one's mother of life, deprives one's father of life, deprives an Arahant of life, with a malevolent mind sheds the blood of a Tathāgata, and causes schism in the Saṅgha.
Faith associated with pleasant feeling … virtue, learning, generosity, wisdom, lust, delusion, conceit, view, longing … body-consciousness accompanied by pleasure is a condition for hatred (dosa) … for delusion, for body-consciousness accompanied by pain, and for the aggregates (khandha) associated with painful feeling, by decisive-support condition.
